Dog Behaviour Support in Manchester & Greater Manchester
Helping you understand your dog's behaviour and find practical, compassionate ways forward.
Is your dog's behaviour making everyday life difficult?
Maybe they're fearful of people or dogs, struggling with handling, barking at visitors, guarding things, unable to settle, or displaying behaviour that you simply don't understand.
When behaviour becomes challenging, it can be difficult to know what your dog is trying to tell you, or what you should do next.
I provide personalised, force-free behaviour support to help you understand why your dog is behaving the way they are, identify the things that may be contributing to it and build practical strategies that work for both of you.
Sessions are available across Greater Manchester, with online support available further afield.

Behaviour is communication
Dogs don't behave "badly" for the sake of it.
Every behaviour has a function, even when we don't immediately understand what that function is.
Barking, growling, hiding, snapping, pulling away, guarding or becoming unable to settle can all be ways of communicating an emotional response or trying to cope with something in the environment.
Rather than simply looking at how we can stop the behaviour, we'll look at what your dog is communicating and why they might be struggling.
Understanding that gives us a much better starting point for creating meaningful change.

What kinds of behaviour can we work on?
Behaviour support can be appropriate for a wide range of challenges. Every case is different, so we'll look at your individual circumstances rather than applying a one-size-fits-all solution.

Other behavioural challenges
If your dog's behaviour isn't listed here, don't assume I can't help. Get in touch and we can talk through what's happening.

Behaviour support isn't about simply teaching your dog what to do
Sometimes a dog doesn't need another command. They need us to understand why they are struggling in the first place.
Behaviour support looks at the bigger picture - your dog's emotions, environment, experiences, learning history and the situations in which the behaviour occurs.
We'll look at what happens before, during and after the behaviour so that we can understand what's maintaining it and where we can make changes.
That might involve management strategies, changing the environment, teaching new skills, building confidence, changing your dog's emotional response to a trigger or helping them learn alternative ways of coping.
The aim isn't simply to suppress the behaviour. It's to help your dog cope more successfully.
Why force-free behaviour support?
I don't use punishment, intimidation or aversive equipment to try to suppress behaviour.
Instead, I use reward-based training and behaviour modification alongside appropriate management strategies to help your dog
feel safer, make better choices and develop the skills they need.
Behaviour change isn't always quick, and there isn't a magic fix. But by understanding the reasons behind your dog's behaviour and working at a pace they can cope with, we can create meaningful progress without compromising their welfare or your relationship with them.
We look at the whole picture
Behaviour rarely exists in isolation.
We'll consider things such as:
-
when the behaviour happens
-
what happens immediately beforehand
-
what your dog is communicating
-
how intense the response is
-
what happens afterwards
-
your dog's environment and daily routine
-
previous experiences and learning
-
what you've already tried
-
what you'd like life to look like instead
This helps us build a plan around your actual dog and your actual life, rather than trying to fit you into a standard programme.

How does behaviour support work?
1. Tell me what's happening
Once you book, you'll receive a detailed questionnaire so I can start building a picture of your dog's behaviour, history and your current challenges.
2. We work out what's going on
During our initial consultation, we'll discuss the behaviour in detail, identify potential contributing factors and look at what your dog needs to feel and cope better.
3. We create a plan
I'll give you practical strategies and exercises to work on between sessions, along with guidance on how to manage difficult situations while we're working towards longer-term change.
You'll be able to send me videos and updates between sessions so I can provide feedback and help you stay on track.
Behaviour change takes time. How often we meet will depend on your dog's needs, the complexity of the behaviour and the progress we're making.
You don't need to wait until things get worse
You don't need to have tried everything before asking for help.
And you don't need to know exactly what's causing your dog's behaviour.
If something doesn't feel right, or you're struggling to understand what's happening, that's enough reason to start a conversation.
We'll start where you are and work from there.
